WHAT IS BUYCONEJO?
The BUYCONEJO program is an ongoing campaign to educate residents within the cities of Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village, about the positive economic benefits associated with shopping and buying goods and services locally.
BUYCONEJO was conceptualized in 2004 by the City of Thousand Oaks Business Roundtable Sub-committee appointed to seek funds and launch a public awareness campaign for buying and shopping locally.
GOALS
-
Educate city residents on how buying locally supports city services and general operations by generating sales tax revenue.
-
Partner with local merchants to help shoppers choose local vendors and suppliers to support and sustain the business community and local economy.
-
Collaborate with marketing students from California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI) to survey residents and identify future opportunities for the BUYCONEJO campaign, as well as compile research data for local retailers to meet the wants and needs of the local community.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
-
Support local businesses in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Newbury Park, and surrounding communities by purchasing products and services here, instead of driving elsewhere. When the cost of gas, time and energy is factored into the price, you are better served buying locally.
-
Visit your community farmer’s market for fresh, locally grown produce. Not only is it better for your family, but it supports local growers.
-
Shop for big ticket items locally, such as vehicles, appliances, boats, RVs, etc. The amount of tax on these items significantly impacts the city reserves and could save a community program, plant a park, or fill a pothole.
HELP US!
By displaying a BUYCONEJO window decal in your business window. Your support will help generate awareness and help spread the message. Thank you. Visit the Chamber, call (805) 370-0035 or visit www.conejochamber.org for more information.
THANK YOU
FOR SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS!
Choosing to shop locally helps to make your
community a better place to live and work!
HOW DO LOCAL TAX DOLLARS WORK FOR YOU?
Local sales tax dollars fund the largest portion of the city budget.
Every dollar spent in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills
fund these important programs and services:
POLICE DEPARTMENT | FIRE DEPARTMENT | PUBLIC LIBRARY
SCHOOL PROGRAMS | STREET IMPROVEMENTS & MAINTENANCE
YOUTH & SENIOR SERVICES | GENERAL OPERATIONS
The BUYCONEJO campaign was designed by a volunteer board of local business representatives
selected by City Council to serve as a liaison between the Council and local businesses.
