    Job Summary:

    Gymboree Play & Music Thousand Oaks (GPMTO) our early childhood development center is seeking a Retail Store Manager who can create store policies and marketing programs that will increase sales and grow the existing customer base. This position has a salary of $45,760 per year PLUS commission. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing operations to stay within the established budget while making changes necessary to sustain the projected profit margin for each quarter. Customer service is key to the success of this business and the manager will be expected to address and resolve all customer service issues quickly and efficiently in the store. They will manage all aspects of the store’s employees, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, scheduling and assigning duties and responsibilities. They will be responsible for maintaining the overall culture of the store and to ensure the staff also represents and embraces the store’s culture and goals. They will also be responsible for all class and program schedules, product and supplies inventory, and all other general operations of the site.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Track and implement financial quotas for the store and staff based on the stated financial goals of the business
    • Develop and manage GPMTO membership sales via onsite sales, direct acquisition and renewals through compelling programs designed to increase membership sales and member retention using best strategies in stewardship, renewal and upgrading of current members
    • Develop a schedule of holiday activities, special events and promotions throughout the year strategically designed to bring in more revenue
    • Serve as primary representative of GPMTO operation on a daily basis, and at all special events, and outside activities
    • Provide supervision, leadership, motivation and mentoring to the staff
    • Complete schedules and assign duties and responsibilities to the store’s staff
    • Implement training to improve the knowledge base of the staff and utilize cross-training methods to maintain productivity when employees are absent
    • Recruit, hire and train staff for the store to meet the needs of customers
    • Evaluate staff quarterly and replace staff as needed based on performance-based metrics
    • Maintain inventory by implementing purchasing plans and staying in contact with vendors and shippers
    • Work with vendors and manufacturers to bring in effective marketing displays for the sales floor and store windows
    • Manage all controllable costs to keep operations profitable
    • Successful completion of all Gymboree Play & Music teaching programs with the ability to be able to lead any class, program or event if necessary
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred
    • 5+ years of retail management experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Computer database and productivity software skills required, specifically with a Customer Relationship System (CRM), task management and Microsoft office products
    • Proven history of successfully training employees in a variety of departments
    • Strong understanding of sales and customer service techniques including inbound and outbound calls, and face to face communications with customers
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain and work within a budget
    • People skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team
    • The ability to work in high-pressure situations and to “think on your feet.”
    • Excellent communications and negotiation skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Self-motivated with a high level of confidence

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those as employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is usually done indoors in a climate-controlled environment. The work environment is normally lively and playful with music, singing and kids playing in the background on the play floor, art room or front desk. Occasionally, the work entails working in an outdoor environment for special events and special programs.
