The Conejo Valley YMCA is hosting its 15th annual Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28. The 5K run/walk and 1K family fun run/walk is held at California Lutheran University (60 West Olsen Rd., Thousand Oaks). The length of the races are short enough so everyone can get an early morning workout and still make it home in time to take part in their Thanksgiving gathering.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Professional timing is provided for 5K runners. The 1K family fun run/walk is at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 8:00 a.m. The annual costume contest takes place at 7:15, just before the start of the 1K run/walk. Come dressed in your favorite Thanksgiving Day costume. The top three winners with the craziest and most unique costumes receive prizes. Dress as a group or individually.

Proceeds from the Turkey Day Dash benefit Conejo Valley YMCA youth, family and senior programs. “We’re proud to be celebrating the 15th year of this wonderful community tradition,” says Allison Wilson, the Y’s senior program director. “Turkey Day Dash embraces the spirit of Thanksgiving. Community members come together to share in this fun, happy and healthy event. Turkey Day Dash is for a good cause too. Money raised enables the Y to offer financial assistance so everyone can participate in our programs regardless of ability to pay."

Nearly 4,000 runners and walkers participated in Turkey Day Dash last year. It is the largest run/walk in Ventura County.

Awards will be handed out to the fastest runners in 16 age and gender categories—including those runners as young as age four and under to runners age 76 and up.

Participants receive a Turkey Day Dash YMCA t-shirt while supplies last. Early online registration through November 24 is $55/individuals and $110/families (up to six family members). Late registration is November 26 and 27 at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Rd., Newbury Park): $60/individuals, $130/families. Bibs and t-shirts can be picked up at Road Runner Sports on those days. Race day registration is $65/individuals and $150/families (6:30 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. at the old CLU football stadium).

No pets are allowed. Jogging strollers are welcome (they will line up at the end of the starting line). Volunteers are needed to help on race day. For more information, race routes and to register, go to www.turkeydaydash.org or call 805-523-7613.
