                                                                            OUR MISSION:
Together, We Can Build A Better World!
~Inspired by the Charmed Life of Russell & Gina Garcia~
We believe that youth can move the world! The aim of the Build a Better World Foundation is to support youth in this noble endeavor through music and the arts by sponsoring charity concerts and events. Donations to the Build a Better World Foundation go directly to the production of musical events, which not only nurture talent and leadership skills in the participating youth, but raise funds and awareness for existing charitable organizations and projects that relate to education, natural health, social justice, sustainability, science and the arts.

A week ago on September 21st, representatives from the six organizations featured at a Celebration Launch Concert for the Build A Better World Foundation last December 2016 and the Agoura HS Jazz Band had the pleasure to be invited to a celebration of the Build a Better World Foundation’s official designation as a 501c3 charitable organization, along with a ribbon cutting ceremony given by the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, held at the Performing Arts, Education Center on the campus of Agoura High School. This celebration not only represented the hard work of the foundation’s founder Kristy Corwin, her team of youth,  mom, Judy Kulp, also including Board Member, Tamineh Roshanian and sponsors, but the legacy of her grandparents Russell and Gina Garcia. Amongst their several accomplishments, Russell as a composer and Gina as a singer and author, they worked hard toward humanitarian efforts, the empowerment of youth and to the education of children. It was their dedication to both Music and Education that inspired Corwin to start the Build a Better World Foundation, along with her grandmother, Gina in 2016.  It was always a dream of her grandparents to have a charitable organization. The Foundation directly supports youth by sponsoring charity concerts and events, which helps facilitate youth participation in the arts. They also raise money for the causes which they believe to be the pillars of the better world, which includes education, social justice, natural health, sustainability, science and the arts.
The event on the 21st showcased the Build a Better World Foundation’s commitment to their pillars of the better world by raising funds for organizations that also help to achieve them. This includes The Mona Foundation, Lide, Full Circle Learning, Star School, Oceti Wakan and The Earth Citizen Organization that were all presented with funds that were raised at the Dec. 2016 Celebration Launch Concert.
The evening’s composers and arrangers, honored by Build A Better World Foundation were Robert Porter and Bob Alcivar, who hadn’t seen each other in many years.  Porter and Alcivar both worked with and learned from Corwin’s grandfather, Russell Garcia at various points in their careers.  Alcivar is known for his arrangements on the 1969 Fifth Dimension hit album “The Age of Aquarius,” and Porter contributed music to the TV shows “Lassie” and “Woody Woodpecker,” among others.  Both men were presented with awards for their lifelong Service & Dedication to Music.
