    Event Description:

    The Education Committee works to improve the future quality of your workforce by hosting quality educational programs through local partnerships. Meetings include a presentation by featured speakers in the areas of Education, Job Training, Human Resources, Community Programs, and updates from our local partners.

    The Education Committee coordinates interaction between businesses, local school districts, private schools and universities.

    This committee also leads our Teacher of the Month Program where we honor educational excellence by rewarding teachers with a plaque in their name and gifts from Chamber Members. This is an opportunity for Chamber Members (you) to acknowledge our educators while also giving a brief description of your organization!

     

    This Month's Speaker:  Karen Miles Ed.D and Hilary Howard, The Career Hub

    Karen Miles, Ed. D
    Dr. Karen Miles has devoted her career to preparing students and adults for their next career step. Her background is in career counseling and employment training with both youth and adults, and she holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. She taught a Master’s class in academic and career counseling for over 10 years for K12 and college counselor candidates. Karen has co-authored a middle school career readiness curriculum, and published several toolkits and handbooks on equity in early college credit and improving support for students transitioning from K12. She has provided technical assistance and professional development for 22 community colleges and their K12 partners to fix and expand their career pathways. Co-founding The Career Hub is a natural progression of Karen’s dedication to helping students make informed career decisions. Hilary Howard

    Hilary Howard
    Hilary is a highly accomplished and results-oriented global senior human resources executive with experience in both Industry and Education, and an extensive record of success in dynamic entrepreneurial environments in the public and private sector.. 

    Her passion is coaching organizations and their people to maximize their professional effectiveness and discover and leverage their unique talents and strengths in order to bring high levels of engagement, productivity and purpose while creating a strong competitive advantage. She brought this passion, along with her insight of talent skills shortages gathered over many years serving on HR professional organizations both regionally and nationally, to the world of career development for the education sector; developing relationships between employers and educators to help create career skills and experiences for students and help employers play a greater role in the shaping of their future workforce. She holds multiple professional HR certifications, along with 2 CTE Designated teaching credentials.

    Co-founding The Career Hub is an intersection of her skills and passions.
