The Education Committee is works to improve the future quality of your workforce by hosting quality educational programs through local partnerships. Meetings include a presentation by featured speakers in the areas of Education, Job Training, Human Resources, Community Programs, and updates from our local partners.
The Education Committee coordinates interaction between businesses and the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and partners with private schools/colleges in the Conejo Valley.
This committee also leads our Teacher of the Month Program in partnership with CVUSD, where we honor educational excellence by rewarding teachers with a plaque in their name and gifts from Chamber Members. This is an opportunity for Chamber Members (you) to acknowledge our educators while also giving a brief description of your organization!

This Month's Speaker - Cortica - Autism and Neurological Disabilities: Preparing for Academics and the Workforce
Kevin Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D. Executive Director of Research and Therapeutic Technologies, Cortica
Kevin Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D., a renowned expert in cognitive neuroscience, is Executive Director of Research and Therapeutic Technologies at Cortica. Dr. Shapiro uses his expertise to identify and address the underlying causes that may impact a child’s development. Dr. Shapiro has dedicated his career to better understand brain development in children with neurodevelopmental differences. With subspecialty training in vascular neurology, Dr. Shapiro is one of only a handful of board-certified pediatric stroke neurologists in the United States.
Erin Hafey, M.A., BCBA Director of Cognitive and Behavior Therapies, Westlake Village, Cortica
Erin oversees the Cognitive and Behavior Therapies team in Westlake Village. Previously with Easterseals Southern California, Erin brings extensive experience overseeing clinical ABA services and developing comprehensive behavior intervention plans for the reduction of maladaptive behaviors. She also has experience conducting behavioral assessments and training parents in ABA technologies.
Karen Smith, OTR/L Director of Sensorimotor and Communication Therapies, Westlake Village, Cortica
Karen oversees Cortica’s sensorimotor and communications team in Westlake Village. She has extensive experience conducting assessments and providing clinical and school-based occupational interventions to children and young people under 21 years of age. She also has experience in program development, supervision/mentoring, and family/educator training. Through occupational therapy intervention and therapist mentoring, Karen is committed to helping each child reach their fullest potential through effective goal-directed therapy, sensorimotor integration, and motivating each child and therapist to meet their goals.
