Bob Sturgeon of Westside Remodeling- 30 Years of Enriching Our Community
We’ve all heard the saying “If you want to see a man’s future, look to his past”. If that’s the case, then Bob Sturgeon, President and owner of Westside Remodeling has much to smile about as he celebrates an ambitious past, present, and future with the Design-Build company he started 30 years ago.
Bob started Westside Remodeling in 1985 as a home-based residential remodeling business in West Los Angeles. Bob bought a home in the Conejo Valley in 1989- opening doors to the next phase of both his remodeling business and life in a growing community. Here he opened a showroom in Thousand Oaks, and married Georgia with whom they have two amazing children- Bradley and Jenna-now ambitious young adults. Over the years, Westside has earned a clientele consisting greatly of referrals, interior designers, repeat customers, and active community members-many of which Bob has come to know through church, community events and industry partners. Today, having completed over 1000 projects ranging from kitchens and bathrooms to exterior and whole-home remodels, Westside Remodeling has come a long way since it’s inception as a one man operation.
When asked the question, “What would you say is the primary reason Westside has prevailed in business for 30 years?”, Bob’s response was simple and sincere. “Definitely our core values”, crediting many years of hard work and strong belief in conducting all projects, inner-workings, and client relationships, with Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence; an approach Westside’s team can attest to. “In everyday activity, these are ideals we grant a lot of consideration, whether we’re decision-making with clients, or brainstorming at a company meeting. In the office we have a great mutual respect as a team, making these concepts normal practice- but more importantly, we make it a point to consistently reflect on how we’re doing at walking-the-walk with our clients”, says Danielle Peter, a designer at Westside.
Since Westside Remodeling’s beginning in the Conejo Valley, there’s no doubt the community has experienced a lot of growth, having a positive impact on business; but that’s not the only thing to have changed with time. In the past 3 decades the remodeling industry has experienced tremendous growth, with ever changing technology, an endless array of product selections, and the internet at our fingertips. Add some economic ups-and-downs to the pile, and it can be very challenging for a Design-Build firm to stay in business, nonetheless ahead of the curve.
Having a perfect record with the Contractors State Licensing Board, and A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, Westside Remodeling has proven that persistence and strong ethics can go a long way. “Reflecting on all these years, it’s human nature to be reminded of the foundation I envisioned my company operating by, and the approach I believe in taking to accomplish our goals”, says Bob. “We’ve maintained a team of excellent designers, craftsmen, and staff; all with different backgrounds and contributions. With 30 years to evolve and ripen, many things have changed, but our core values have remained a driving force behind our success. It is a good feeling when you can use your strengths for the good of others, and what is better than improving a family’s quality of life by enhancing the environment of their home?”
Moving into the future, Westside plans to uphold their investment in continual improvement.
